I’ve wanted to create an ocean art painting for quite a while now that focusses solely on a large wave that dominates the whole canvas. I have searched for the right reference photo for maybe two years and earlier this year I finally found it – and I’m glad I did.
Into The Mystic has turned out looking amazing and I’m really happy with how good the wave looks and the semi-abstract nature of the background. This is one of my new favourites.
Unlike all of my other paintings in the Wave Series (select “Wave Series” from the list), which have all been painted using Hydrocryl acrylics as the base/background and then painting the wave in water-mixable oils, this painting is 100% Hydrocryl acrylics. As someone who grew up using and was taught blending techniques only with oil paints, I am very happy and confident with my technical progress, specifically blending with fast drying acrylic paints.
As with all of my paintings, Into The Mystic has been named using song lyrics. The lyrics for this painting come from Van Morrison’s song of the same name – and I feel like these lyrics really suit the feelings and emotions that this beautiful painting express and make you feel.
